OGDEN —Thaine Fischer isn’t your typical developer.

The Montana native turned diehard Ogden loyalist is in the midst of a $14 million overhaul of the 57,000-square-foot garage immediately east of The Bigelow Hotel.

The Montana native turned diehard Ogden loyalist purchased the building — vacant for more than a decade — and renamed it “The Monarch.” His plan for the structure involves a complete renovation, including new space for restaurants, retail and event space, exhibit and collaborative space, and design studios.

OGDEN — A plan to build an arts and culture core in east-central Ogden is quickly becoming a reality.

The “Nine Rails Creative District Master Plan” is scheduled to be reviewed by the Ogden City Planning Commission in April. The proposal is as ambitious as it is wide-ranging, but its aim is pretty simple: create a concentrated hub for arts and culture where creatives can live and collaborate and where visitors can come and explore.

 

Project to turn vacant commercial albatross into arts building gaining steam

OGDEN — A $14 million revamp of a 90-year-old building just east of Washington Boulevard will be the centerpiece of a developing arts and cultural district downtown.

Earlier this month, the Ogden Planning Commission recommended preliminary approval for a plan to redevelop the massive, vacant commercial building on the southeast corner of 25th Street and Ogden Avenue.
